Many residents would choose public transport if it was reliable, predictable, and affordable.

Unfortunately, it isn’t any of those. In the opinion of many residents, the service grows worse year after year.

Buses are chronically late, if they show up at all. The service is expensive for both the users and taxpayers. And the years-long mechanical problems with the new LRT are still not resolved. It’s a mess.

There are things we can do to fix our transit system. We need steady leadership to press forward on making our bus system reliable. It’s possible, with courage.

And we can sort out the LRT problems with a firm hand. We have to stop giving in to the contractors and push back to get the system fixed, now.

Solutions

More dedicated bus-only lanes, particularly during peak periods, along with the development of a robust bus rapid transit system like the Baseline BRT
Better connections from Bells Corners to the new LRT stations, and investments in frequency of the 256
LRT connection routes need to be planned and shared well before the service operates so residents can provide feedback
Bigger and better contigency plans for the bus fleet, every day, to cover for maintenance issues and LRT “replacement bus” requirements
Continue to reject development sprawl that forces the City to provide bus services further and further and further out, weakening the reliability of the system
Defend the taxpayers’ interest in the ongoing LRT wheel bearing/curved
track/broken bogie fiasco to achieve a long-term fix for this problem
